First time to Tenerife?

First time in Tenerife?

Most people regard Tenerife as the place to visit to soak up the sun as it’s more or less guaranteed to be sunny throughout the year. Which of course is right, however there is more to Tenerife than just the sun.

Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands with the capital being Santa Cruz.

This island has over five million tourists a year which makes it the most visited of any of the Canary Islands and an important destination in Spain.

Tenerife hosts one of the world’s largest carnivals, because of that the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is working to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

One of the main attractions of the island is the World Heritage Site, Teide National Park, the “birth place” of the island. The peak is the highest elevation of Spain which also makes it the highest of the Atlantic Ocean. The scenery is absolutely stunning and what feels a little strange is when you realise you are in fact walking/driving inside the formations of a volcano. Naturally most people want to achieve the ultimate and reach the actual peak of the island.

There are two ways to do this, one is via the cable car and the other is to walk.

The walking is restricted to the numbers at any one time and of course the cable cars are reliant on relatively light winds. However, irrespective of the conditions relating to walks and cable cars, it is certainly worth a drive or bus ride to the “base camp”.

The main tourist area Las Americas, is on the south coast of the island and is only about 15 minutes from the main airport Reina Sofia.

There are so many activities to do on Tenerife from para gliding, surfing and diving to walking and cycling. All it takes to find what is suitable for you is to look around at the signs or visit the Tourist Information centres.
If you want to tour the island in a more conventional way via the local bus service Titsa, it is recommended you purchase what is known as a Bono card, which means you get discounts on fares and they are pre-paid.

So come to Tenerife, soak up the sun on the beach or involve yourself and family in all the exciting activities just waiting for you.
